The third quarter is over, and for your accountant the most stressful week of the season begins. If you want to file your Q3 2026 reports without late-night reconciliations and penalties, do not start with the tax forms. Start with the paperwork. Here is what actually saves time.
First, find out what exactly you have to file
The set of reports depends on your tax regime and line of business. A VAT payer needs one set of forms, a company on the simplified tax needs another, and employers also report on payroll and social contributions. Write yourself a short list: which returns, to which authority, by which date. Always double-check forms and deadlines in your taxpayer account, because requirements change from time to time.
Documents to collect before you start
- Bank statements for the whole quarter, including foreign currency accounts.
- Issued and received e-invoices (e-qaimə). Mismatches here are the most common reason the tax office asks questions.
- Contracts and acceptance acts that the other party has not signed yet.
- Cash documents, expense reports, timesheets and payroll calculations.
We covered invoices separately: how to issue an e-qaimə in Azerbaijan.
Reconciliations worth doing early
Compare balances with your bank, with your main counterparties and with your accounting software. Check VAT separately: everything you claim for deduction must be backed by documents. A mistake found at the start of the month is easy to fix. On the last day of the deadline it becomes a crisis.
Signature and account access
Make sure the electronic signature is valid and the responsible person can log in. People remember the signature expiry date on deadline day more often than they would like. If you do not have one yet, here is a guide to Asan İmza.
Typical mistakes
- Filing on the very last day, when the system is overloaded.
- Figures that do not match between different forms.
- Forgotten forms that are required even when there was no turnover.
- No proof of submission. Keep the confirmation in the report folder.
For the cost of missing a deadline, see why quarterly reports must be filed on time.
Frequently asked questions
What if the numbers do not add up yet and the deadline is close?
Usually it is wiser to file on time with the data you have and submit a corrected return later than to miss the deadline. Check the correction procedure with your accountant or the tax authority.
When is it time to bring in a specialist?
If you have several activities, many foreign currency operations, or this is your first quarterly report, a consultation costs less than a fine. For example, accounting and legal services are offered by ABC Consulting.
