It is a long way from Baku to Latin America, and improvising costs a lot. But a well-planned trip of a month or two gives you what no one-week holiday can. Here is what to think through before you buy the ticket.
Route and flights
There are usually no direct flights from Baku to Latin America, so the journey runs through hubs such as Istanbul, Doha, Dubai or European cities. Visas and documents
Entry rules for Azerbaijani citizens depend on the country and change over time, so check them on the embassy or foreign ministry website of the destination, not in someone's old review. See in advance which countries do not require a visa: the list of visa-free destinations will help. Your passport usually needs to be valid for at least six months after the trip. Some regions may ask for a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
Health and insurance
Medical insurance is a must, with evacuation cover. Check that it includes the activities you are going for, such as trekking. Also remember altitude: Cusco, La Paz and Bogotá sit high, and the first days there are better kept light.
